The Effective Carbon Number of Chlorobenzenes

Detector response of 12 chlorobenzenes was investigated (mono-, di-, tri-, tetra-, penta-, and hexachlorobenzene, CBs) using flame ionization detector in a capillary gas chromatographic system. We determined the signal-reducing effect chlorine atom on aromatic ring relative to number substituents expressed with effective carbon (ECN). Benzene applied as reference substance. Using signal-modifying pattern atoms benzene's response, we developed an alternative calibration measurement method (CBs-ECN method) for CBs compared it classic calibration. The differences concentrations calculated by two quantitative methods were under 4.5% 11 7% one compound.Taking advantage opportunities provided CBs-ECN is not necessary apply all but only single component, hexachlorobenzene With this simplification, preparation standards faster, does require purchasing each subsequent calibration, exposure harm expenses are reduced.
